BMI Foundation, Inc. named composers Louis Stevens and Bryan Garbe as recipients of the 2023 Pete Carpenter Fellowship, a competitive residency for aspiring film, television, and video game composers.

Kendra Jae to Open for Victoria Monét’s The Jaguar Tour
Kendra Jae, the recipient of the 2022 BMI Foundation Charlie Feldman Award, will be opening for Victoria Monét’s The Jaguar Tour in her hometown of Sacramento, California on October 9th. Monét announced the lineup for her tour on her social media in September, which will also include performances by Alex Vaughn, Ambre, Lavi$h, Leon Thomas, Tanerélle, and Tone Stith.

BMI Foundation Announces over $30,000 in Awards to High School Music Students Across the United States
BMI Foundation, Inc. has announced the winners of the Curtis Mayfield Scholarships and the Chris Trousdale Dream Awards. Awards for both programs, which include monetary gifts exceeding $30,000, are given to high school students pursuing a career in music.

BMI Foundation presented saxophonist and composer Joseph Herbst with the 2023 Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize and Manny Albam Commission for his piece “Where My Dreams Go to Die?” at the BMI Jazz Composers Workshop showcase at Symphony Space in June.

Alice Macedo Awarded 20th Annual peermusic Latin Music Award
BMI Foundation has named Miami-based singer/songwriter Alice Macedo the winner of the 2023 peermusic Latin Music Award. Macedo’s winning song, “Te Levo Comigo,” is a love song to her home country of Brazil.

71st Annual BMI Composer Award Winners Announced
BMI (Broadcast Music, Inc.) and BMI Foundation, Inc celebrated the honorees of the 71st annual BMI Composer Awards at a private ceremony held on May 15th at Chelsea Table and Stage in New York City. BMI Foundation President and BMI Executive Director of Classical Deirdre Chadwick, renowned composer and Chair of the Composer Awards Ellen Taaffe Zwilich, and BMI Senior Vice President of Licensing David Levin presented the awards to six emerging composers for excellence in composition.

Christian X. M. McGhee Awarded 2023 BMI Future Jazz Masters Award
Christian X. M. McGhee was awarded the 2023 BMI Future Jazz Master Award at the National Endowment for the Arts (NEA) annual celebration of the Jazz Masters Fellows at the John F. Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C. McGhee was selected by a panel of NEA Jazz Masters for his talent and potential as a jazz performer and composer.

Ángela Fernández was awarded the 2022 peermusic Latin Music Scholarship at BMI’s 30th annual Latin Awards in Beverly Hill, CA. Hosted by BMI President & CEO Mike O’Neill and BMI Vice President, Creative, Latin, Jesus Gonzalez, the evening celebrated the top songwriters and publishers of Latin music.

The winners of the BMI Foundation’s 24th Annual John Lennon Scholarships, a program that recognizes the nation’s best and brightest young songwriters between the ages of 17 and 24, were announced by Samantha Cox, Vice President of the BMI Foundation and Director of the competition.

Two Winners share 2021 Charlie Parker Prize
Two winners were selected to share the top honors at BMI’s 32nd annual Jazz Composers Workshop held in New York City and featuring the best new big band and jazz orchestra compositions created in the workshop during the 2020-2021 session. Composers Chuck Iwanusa and Tracy Yang shared the prestigious Charlie Parker Jazz Composition Prize and split the award money.
